Teenage Girl Found Dead
at Posh Midtown Hotel

By BILL LASAK

Mary Shayne, a 17-year-old senior at Manhattan's exclusive Chadwick School, was found dead at the Peninsula Hotel on Fifth Avenue, officials said.

An ambulance was called to the luxury hotel and paramedics escorted to a penthouse suite just after 2 a.m. on Saturday morning, and police arrived shortly afterward.

The coroner has yet to release a cause of death, and Detective Vincent Mateo of the NYPD's 15th Precinct Detectives' Squad has yet to provide any substantial information, other than the fact that Friday was apparently Miss Shayne's birthday.

No arrests have been made, but the police are investigating a number of leads. An official statement will be issued tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.
